How Local Students Are Building Careers With UFC Through a Work-Based learning Program

Some of the best team members are growing up right here in our own communities. That’s why our partnership with area high schools through their Work-Based Learning (WBL) programs has become such an important part of how we build our team—and our future.

For students, it’s a chance to explore real-world careers in agriculture. For us, it’s a meaningful way to invest in local talent and give students a clear path from the classroom to a career—without ever leaving home.

Austin was one of the first students to come through a WBL program at UFC—and he’s never looked back. Today, he’s a full-time team member with his CDL and applicator license, helping both in the field and in the shop. He’s also one of the people who helps train new employees and current student interns, like Layton.

Throughout the past year, Layton’s picked up practical skills like time management and organization, but it’s the people and the culture that stood out most. “My co-workers and the love for farming made me want to stay,” he shared. A ride-along with Austin during fall spreading sealed the deal: “That moment really confirmed for me that this was the right fit.”
